CLEANING THE FILTERS
Each filter bed is backwashed once a day to remove contaminants trapped in the sand. Water - from a 500,000 gallon tank high above the plant - is forced through the bottom of the filter, stirring the sand and washing away the contaminated particles. Each filter takes only 15 minutes to clean.
