MDC OFFERS CUSTOMERS OPTION OF PAYING BILLS ELECTRONICALLY
HARTFORD – Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) customers will now be able to enjoy the convenience of paying their water bills electronically.
Through electronic bill paying, customers will save the bother of writing checks and can avoid the worry of whether their payments are delivered on time. Also, customers will have an electronic record of their payments.
“Enabling customers to pay their bills online is a key part of our continuing efforts to improve customer service,” said P. J. “Bud” Salemi, Chairman of the MDC Water Bureau. “For several years, the MDC has been researching how best to offer this option to our customers, to ensure that all necessary privacy and security safeguards are in place. We are pleased to offer this free service.”
To pay electronically, customers log onto the MDC web site, www.themdc.com, and click on the "Pay Online" button. Customers will need their account numbers and a bank savings or checking account. Credit card payment will not be accepted. Customers will have the option of setting a future date for the payment to be recorded and will receive an e-mail confirming the payment once it is made.
The MDC is phasing in the electronic payment option beginning with bills issued on October 15. As each subsequent cycle is billed, the customers in that cycle will be able to pay on line. It will take about three months for customers in all billing cycles to have this option. Customers with overdue balances will not be able to use electronic payment.
The MDC is a nonprofit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929. The MDC provides water, sewer and household hazardous waste collection services to its member municipalities: Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor. In addition, under a series of special agreements, the District supplies treated water to Glastonbury, the southern portion of South Windsor, the eastern portion of Farmington, East Granby and Unionville.
