MDC TO TEST RIVERTON WARNING HORNS

BARKHAMSTED -- The warning horns located at the Metropolitan District Commission’s (MDC) Goodwin Hydroelectric Powerhouse in Hartland and adjacent to the Grange Hall in the Riverton section of Barkhamsted will undergo a routine test at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 1.

The test is part of the MDC’s annual emergency action plan drill. The drill is required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for all hydroelectric power projects. Several soundings may be necessary to test the system. The tests are expected to be completed by 4 p.m.

The MDC regrets any inconvenience that the noise may cause area residents during the testing period.

A non-profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929, the MDC supplies water and sewer services to its eight member municipalities: Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor. The MDC supplies treated water to the Town of Portland and portions of Glastonbury, East Granby, South Windsor and Farmington. The MDC owns and operates two three-megawatt hydroelectric power stations, one at the Goodwin Dam in Hartland and one at the Colebrook River Dam in Colebrook.
