MDC Conducts Winter Coat Drive

HARTFORD – The Metropolitan District Commission (MDC), in partnership with the Community Renewal Team Inc. (CRT), is conducting a winter coat drive for needy people in the area.

CRT provides a comprehensive range of human services to low-income and disadvantaged persons.  Founded in 1963 to help families break the cycle of poverty, CRT is one of the oldest continuously operating community action agencies in the nation.

The collection will benefit CRT clients -- men, women and children -- in the East Hartford Community Shelter.

The MDC collection will be October 14 through November 21. Donations of new and used winter coats and jackets, hats, gloves and scarves (clean and in good condition) may be brought to the MDC’s headquarters lobby at 555 Main St., Hartford.  MDC’s business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The East Hartford Community Shelter, 385 Main St., East Hartford, will distribute the collected coats on a first-come, first-served basis.

A non-profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929, the MDC supplies water and sewer services to its eight member municipalities:  Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor.  The MDC also supplies treated water to portions of Glastonbury, East Granby, South Windsor, Farmington and Portland.
