MDC'S
HAZWASTE COLLECTION, SHUTDOWN DUE TO WEATHER, WILL NOT BE RESCHEDULED; RESIDENTS
MAY ATTEND REMAINING COLLECTIONS
SIMSBURY – The household hazardous waste collection that was cut short in Simsbury because of dangerous weather earlier this month will not be rescheduled. However, residents of Simsbury, Avon, Canton and Granby will have the opportunity to safely dispose of their unwanted oil-based paint, pesticides and other household hazardous waste at any of the remaining Metropolitan District Commission (MDC)-sponsored collections through October.
On September 18, the collection at the Henry James Memorial School was cut short about two hours before its scheduled closing time because of the danger posed by lightning. The MDC apologizes for any inconvenience, but notes that the safety of the participants and workers is the utmost consideration.
Residents may participate in any of the remaining collections. The HazWaste Collection Program is a collaboration between the MDC and 29 participating municipalities. Working with the MDC, the local program coordinators and volunteers ensure that residents are able to dispose their waste safely and efficiently.
Collections are held from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Here is the remaining 2004 schedule:
Sunday, Oct. 17, Bloomfield, Tikvoh Chadoshoh, 180 Still Road
Saturday, Oct. 23, East Hartford, East Hartford Water Pollution Control Facility, 65 Pitkin St.
Saturday, Oct. 30, Rocky Hill, Rocky Hill Water Pollution Control Facility, 80 Goff Brook Lane
Saturday, Oct. 30, South Windsor, South Windsor High School, 161 Nevers Road
