M. STEPHEN RHOADES ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION AS MDC CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
 

HARTFORD – M. Stephen Rhoades today announced that he will resign as Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan District Commission to pursue other professional opportunities.

In a letter to MDC Chairman William A. Di Bella, Mr. Rhoades said: “I characterize my nineteen months of service as the Chief Executive Officer of this wonderful organization as a time of personal and professional growth and satisfaction. It is an incredible agency with a long proud history. Much progress has been made in achieving our goal of being known and respected as the best public utility in New England…There are many dedicated employees who give their best every day and we are proud of them. We serve our District citizens well….I wish nothing but the very best for the District.”

Mr. Rhoades pledged to work with Mr. Di Bella and the Board of Commissioners on the various options for executive succession.

The MDC Board of Commissioners appointed Mr. Rhoades, 53, in December 2002. He assumed his position early in 2003 after retiring as a Brigadier General with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His last assignment with the Corps was commander of the North Atlantic Division, based in Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn,  N.Y. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after receiving an engineering degree from the University of Florida in 1973. He received his master’s degree in engineering from the University of Florida in 1980.

A non-profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929, the MDC supplies water and sewer services to its eight member municipalities: Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor. The MDC supplies treated water to the Town of Portland and portions of Glastonbury, East Granby, South Windsor and Farmington. The MDC owns and operates two three-megawatt hydroelectric power stations, one at the Goodwin Dam in Hartland and one at the Colebrook River Dam in Colebrook.
