MDC Conducts
Winter Coat and Sleeping Bag Drive
Hartford – The Metropolitan District Commission (MDC), in partnership with Immaculate Conception Shelter & Housing Corporation in Hartford, is conducting a drive to collect winter coats and sleeping bags for homeless men in the area.
Immaculate Conception Shelter and Housing Corporation has been providing shelter and services for homeless men in Hartford since 1981. Immaculate Conception offers shelter, food, clothing, medical and mental health care, case management, drug counseling, entitlement assistance, education, job training, referrals and housing.
Immaculate Conception’s wish list includes sleeping bags, toiletries (double edge razors, soap, shampoo, deodorant, tooth brushes and tooth paste), socks, pants, and men’s undergarments (sizes small and medium).
The MDC collection will be September 3 through November 1. Donations of new and used winter coats and sleeping bags (clean and in good condition) and toiletries may be brought to the MDC’s Headquarters lobby at 555 Main St., Hartford or the MDC West Hartford Filters, 1420 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. MDC’s business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
We are also accepting donations of women’s and children’s coats, which we will give to a non-profit organization for distribution.
A non-profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929, the MDC supplies water and sewer services to its eight member municipalities: Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor. The MDC also supplies treated water to portions of Glastonbury, East Granby, South Windsor, Farmington and Portland.
