MDC Appoints Charles P. Sheehan as CEO

HARTFORD – The Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) Monday (March 14) appointed Charles P. “Chuck” Sheehan as Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Sheehan will succeed Robert E. Moore, the MDC’s Chief Administrative Officer, whom the Board appointed as an interim CEO in September 2004 upon the resignation of M. Stephen Rhoades.  Mr. Moore will continue to serve as Chief Administrative Officer.

Mr. Sheehan, a lifelong resident of the Hartford area, is Executive Director of the Capital City Economic Development Authority (CCEDA) and has broad experience in engineering and major construction and infrastructure projects, and wide familiarity with the Hartford region. He previously held posts as Deputy Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Works; design engineer with the Connecticut Department of Transportation; City Engineer and Deputy Director of Public Works for the Town of East Hartford; and principal engineer with several area and national consulting engineering firms. Mr. Sheehan also served on active duty as a Colonel with the U.S. Army, serving as Director of Facilities Engineering and Environment for the State of Connecticut Military Department.

MDC Commissioner Dale A. Ryan, Chairman of the CEO Search Committee, said that Mr. Sheehan was selected after an extensive region-wide search.

MDC Chairman William A. DiBella thanked the search committee and Mr. Moore for their service. He noted that, “We were looking for someone with experience in engineering and with a track record of completing major projects” and who is able to lead the MDC in dealing with issues concerning combined sewer overflows, nitrogen reduction, upgrading infrastructure and strengthening the basic water and wastewater services.

The MDC is a non-profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929. The MDC supplies water and sewer services to its eight member municipalities: Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor.  The MDC also supplies treated water to the Town of Portland and portions of Glastonbury, East Granby, South Windsor and Farmington.

The MDC also operates two hydroelectric facilities. Information about the MDC can be found on its web site, www.themdc.com. The MDC is an equal opportunity employer.
