Springfield Spirit’s Shea Ralph, WFSB’s Scot Haney Are Scheduled to Appear At 8th Annual MDC Awesome Egg Hunt for the MDA
WEST
HARTFORD – Former University of Connecticut basketball star Shea Ralph, now
the Assistant Coach and Director of Community Relations for the Springfield
Spirit of the National Women’s Basketball League, and Scot Haney,
meteorologist with WFSB-TV 3, are the scheduled featured guests at the
Metropolitan District Commission’s (MDC) eighth annual Awesome Egg Hunt on
Saturday, April 12, at the West Hartford Reservoir, 1420 Farmington Ave. The event will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shea Ralph and Scot Haney
are scheduled to appear in the afternoon.
“We
are excited to have Shea and Scot join us this year,” said MDC Chairman Albert
F. Reichin. “Both are delightful people and are well-known throughout the
state and New England, and are extremely generous with their involvement in
worthwhile civic projects. I’m sure that visitors to the Awesome Egg Hunt will
enjoy meeting them.”
The
$4 donation per child per hunt, as well as proceeds from the sale of
refreshments, photos with the bunny and gift raffles, are donated to the
Muscular Dystrophy Association for its fight against neuromuscular diseases.
Participating sponsors
include: Buckley Radio and its stations WDRC, WSNG, WMMW and WWCO; Adams IGA
Supermarkets, Walgreens, Imprint Newspapers and WFSB-TV. The Awesome Egg Hunt
will be held rain or shine.
In the past seven years, the
event has raised a total of more than $70,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy
Association’s fight against neuromuscular diseases.
Shea Ralph, who also is
employed by the Hartford Board of Education, earned many honors during her
career at the University of Connecticut. She ranks 6th on the
all-time scoring list with 1,678 points. She was named an Honorable Mention
All-American in the 2000-01 season, and was named to the All-Big East second
team. In the 1999-00 season, she was named Kodak first team All-American, Big East Player of the Year; Sports
Illustrated women’s player of the year and Big East Player of the Year. She
was named Most Valuable Player in the National Collegiate Athletic
Association’s Final Four, when UConn went on to win the national championship
over Tennessee.
Scot Haney is a veteran
weather forecaster. He has experience in New York and Midwest markets. He
received his bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University and completed his
master’s degree at Syracuse University. He provides weather forecasts on
Eyewitness News This Morning from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and Saturdays and Sundays
from 7-9 a.m.
Besides the egg hunt, the
event features games, raffles, a disc jockey and plenty of refreshments, for a
small fee.
The MDC’s West Hartford
Reservoir is on Farmington Avenue, near the West Hartford-Farmington town line,
about one mile east of the University of Connecticut Health Center.

Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and
