GOODWIN DAM ACCESS ROAD, BOAT LAUNCH CLOSED DURING RELEASE OF WATER BY ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS

COLEBROOK – The access road across the Metropolitan District Commission’s (MDC) Goodwin Dam and the boat launch at West Branch Reservoir will be closed while water is released from the upstream Colebrook River Lake Dam through Friday.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is releasing water to lower the level of Colebrook River Lake. This release is standard operating procedure and will fill the MDC’s West Branch Reservoir, causing it to spill over the MDC spillway at Goodwin Dam into the West Branch of the Farmington River.

The release will cause a significant flow at the Goodwin Dam spillway. The MDC is restricting access in the interest of public safety. The impact on the public will be minimal because little recreational activity takes place at the reservoir during this time of the year.
