WATER POLLUTION CONTROL

Treatment facilities in Hartford, East Hartford, Rocky Hill and Windsor are responsible for the processing and treatment of wastewater, with an average daily flow capacity of more than 100 million gallons of sewage per day. Treatment is accomplished to the standards of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits, issued by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.

The MDC's state certified water pollution control laboratory closely monitors the entire wastewater treatment process to ensure that the effluent (outflow) meets water quality standards in the receiving streams.
