BACKWATER VALVE PROGRAM

The Metropolitan District is offering assistance to its customers for repair of backwater valves that are not operating properly. what's wrong with this backwater valve? A backwater valve is a plumbing device designed to automatically shut and prevent sewage from entering internal systems in the event of public sewer flooding or obstruction.  If you are experiencing basement flooding, due to sewers backing up during heavy rains, you may qualify for the MDC backwater valve repair program. To find out if you qualify for assistance, please read the application packet, which is provided below in both English and Spanish.  You may also wish to view a map to see if you are in a qualifying area.  Is your property located in Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, or Wethersfield?  Qualifying areas are shown in green.

You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader ® to view and print the maps above and the application. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader ®, you may download it now.
If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader ®, you may open the Backwater Valve Assistance Application in English or in Spanish now. For any questions regarding the application, please contact Robert Weatherly at (860)278-7850 ext. 3427, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
